Waukesha County is situated in the southeastern part of Wisconsin in the United States. The county was formed from a portion of Milwaukee County in January 1846. When Milwaukee County was established in September 1834, the region of Wisconsin that Waukesha County now calls home was a part of the Michigan Territory.
The county has a total area of 581 square miles, of which 550 square miles is land and 31 square miles is water shared between seven cities, nineteen villages, and eleven municipalities. Currently, it shares borders with Milwaukee County to the east, Racine County and Walworth County to the south, Jefferson County to the west, and Dodge County and Washington County to the north.
The county has 406,978 residents as of the 2020 US Census, making it Wisconsin’s third-most populated county. The Village of Oconomowoc Lake is the smallest municipality, while Waukesha is the county’s capital and biggest city. Furthermore, it belongs in the Milwaukee–Waukesha–West Allis, WI Metropolitan Statistical Area.
Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office
The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office is located at 515 W Moreland Blvd, Waukesha, WI 53188, United States. The office operates under Sheriff Eric Severson. WCSO is the primary law enforcement agency in Waukesha County. In addition, WCSO is Wisconsin’s third-largest sheriff’s office and the state’s first and only sheriff’s office to get accreditation from the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Accreditation Group (WILEAG).
WCSO is responsible for protecting life and property via the impartial and fair enforcement of all applicable local, state, and federal laws. Additionally, it uses all reasonable efforts to provide Waukesha County residents with the best law enforcement services available and to treat all individuals with dignity and respect to maintain the community’s safety and security.

WCSO Responsibilities
The county serves seven local municipalities with contract law enforcement services. It maintains highly qualified experts in crime scene processing, canine support, computer forensics, accident reconstruction, underwater search and recovery, and polygraph tests.
WCSO also has a special unit trained to carry out high-risk activities. The unit’s primary duty is to deal with scenarios involving unique threats, such as high-risk warrant serving, barricaded suspects, hostage rescue, counterterrorism, and dealing with armed criminals. The unit uses Deployable Technology for scene reconstruction, gathering evidence, and search and rescue.
The office also responds to county disturbances where officers in the Civic Disturbance Unit have specialized training to handle civil disturbances. Tit also assigns officers to participate in a countywide unit dedicated to securely regaining control of illegal and hazardous demonstrations or activities.
The office also runs the county jail, where all offenders are housed. In addition, it serves the courts in the county with security, inmate transportation, issuing legal papers, and processing on behalf of the court. Moreover, it helps in the issuing of services in licensing, fingerprinting, and background checks.

Waukesha County Inmate Search
When you are charged with violating Wisconsin state, federal, and county laws in Waukesha, there is a high probability you will end up in the Waukesha County Jail. Especially if you cannot pay bail or the court denies you bail.
The WCSO runs and manages the Waukesha County Jail. It is also responsible for ensuring that the inmates in its care are well taken care of, including those awaiting trial. In addition, as the Wisconsin FOIA requires, the office to collect, keep, maintain, and update information on these offenders. The corrections division is tasked with these responsibilities. It maintains an online jail roster that is accessible to the general public.
How do you find an inmate using the jail roster?
Performing a Waukesha inmate search using the county jail roster is more accessible than in most counties. This is because the county’s jail roster is designed to assist the interested individual in searching for an inmate. It has inmates with similar first letters of their names grouped together. Through this, the searcher can trace the first letter of the offender they wish to seek, and on the name, they can tap on it to see whether it’s the individual they are interested in using the inmate’s mugshot.
You can also utilize the WI-DOC inmate search database.
What if I do not know the offender’s name?
Sometimes, the offender’s name is not on the list. Or you do not know their names but only their faces and other physical attributes. Locating such an inmate on many occasions may be very difficult. Luckily, this county has a unique way of finding inmates by phone or in person. You can call the jail at 262-548-7170 and request to locate an inmate with the following features. After that, you can either receive the search results by mail or visit the prison and search for the inmate in person.
